Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Unhook mobile application (the "Application"), offered by Unhook (the "Service Provider"). The Application is provided as a commercial service on an "as is" basis.

Information Collection and Use

The Application may collect limited usage information when you install and use it. This can include general device information, the screens you visit in the Application, the time spent using certain features, and app event data used to improve performance and reliability.

The Application does not collect precise real-time location data. It may derive rough regional information from network signals such as IP address so the Service Provider can understand aggregate usage patterns, improve functionality, and help detect abuse.

Camera and Photo Verification

Unhook uses your device camera only when you choose a photo-based habit verification flow, such as Smile, Touch Grass, or Make Your Bed.

• On-device processing only. Photo analysis is performed locally on your device using on-device ML Kit functionality. Images are not uploaded to Unhook servers.
• Smile habit only. Face detection is used only to determine whether a face is present for the Smile habit. No biometric template, identity profile, or faceprint is created or stored.
• No long-term storage. Verification images are used temporarily during the check flow and are not retained by the Service Provider after the check is complete.
• No third-party access to photos. Third-party analytics and payment services do not receive your photo data.

Health and Activity Data

If you enable Apple Health access, the Application reads step-count data solely to verify step-based habits. Unhook does not write health data back to Apple Health and does not use health data for advertising.

Screen Time and Device Restrictions

If you grant Screen Time permission, the Application uses Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls APIs to manage app blocking and unlocking behavior on your device. The Service Provider does not receive a list of your installed apps from this permission flow.

Third-Party Services

The Application uses a limited set of third-party services that process information according to their own policies:

• PostHog — anonymized product analytics
• RevenueCat — subscription and purchase infrastructure
• Expo — application delivery and platform tooling

PostHog collects anonymized usage data including screen views, feature usage, and app events. No personally identifiable information is intentionally shared with PostHog for analytics purposes.

Data Retention

The Service Provider retains information only for as long as needed to operate the Application, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Data that is no longer required is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period.

Children

The Application is not intended for children under 13. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to the Service Provider, please use the contact details below.

Security

The Service Provider uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information processed by the Application. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but the Service Provider works to reduce risk and limit access appropriately.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Material updates will be reflected by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised effective date.
